Dear Dr Cathcart,
It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that Patricia Nash and yourself have been awarded the 2009 Gordon White Prize for your co-authored article entitled “‘To Serve Revenge for the Dead’: Chinese Communist Responses to Japanese War Crimes in the PRC Foreign Ministry Archive, 1949–1956” (December 2009, No. 200, pp 1053–1069).
This prize is awarded annually for the most original article by a young scholar published in the CQ in memory of Gordon White. Gordon White achieved great distinction for his analysis of modern Chinese politics and society, and for his efforts to promote teaching and research on China. He served as a member of the Editorial Board and Executive Committee of The China Quarterly from 1991 until his death in 1998.
The judges are drawn from among the Editorial Board and Executive Committee. The value of the prize is £500 and it will be announced in the forthcoming June issue of the journal.
Congratulations… As you know, it is not easy to get published in the CQ, and to have a paper

Thanks, GI, now if I could just keep my blog up to date! I appreciated your linking to that opera singers story, I thought it was quite an interesting theme and one to watch. If I ever get something pulled together on East German aid to North Korea I will let you know.
